“Keeping the true fragrance of Vietnamese young rice, wrapped in a new form — soft, delicate, and lovely, like a small gift for someone you love.”

Born from a simple wish: “Let young rice travel farther”

Launched during Lunar New Year 2025, Mochi with Green Rice is Lam Yên’s newest creation — born from a very simple wish: to let young rice go farther, last longer, and become a meaningful gift for special occasions.

For Lam Yên, a young-rice treat is only truly complete when it reaches customers as a fresh product — stirred, baked, or wrapped on the same day.

That devotion is what makes Lam Yên different: no preservatives, only the pure fragrance of fresh young rice, meant to be enjoyed within the day.

But because of that, many customers often sighed: “If only we could bring these cakes farther… to share with loved ones, or enjoy them over a few days.”

Understanding that longing, the idea for a new kind of cake slowly took shape — one that keeps the aroma of young rice, stays good for longer, yet still holds the same gentle elegance.

Inspired by Japan’s famous Daifuku mochi

Lam Yên’s Mochi with Green Rice took inspiration from the well-known Japanese strawberry daifuku. The first time we tried a strawberry mochi, we were completely charmed by its soft, stretchy shell and the juicy sweetness inside.

With our passion for young rice, we began imagining: What if we paired a true Japanese mochi shell with a Vietnamese young-rice filling? And from that thought, Fresh Young Rice Mochi was born — a blend of modern Eastern delicacy and the rustic, fragrant soul of Hanoi’s autumn.

Full young-rice flavor, wrapped in a soft mochi shell

Lam Yên’s young rice mochi has a smooth, gently chewy shell made from Japanese glutinous rice flour. It’s soft, thin, and lightly fragrant — just a gentle press of the fingers is enough to feel its softness and the subtle coconut–sticky-rice aroma.

Inside is the stir-fried young rice filling — with each whole grain kept intact, mixed with tender young coconut for a light, natural sweetness. Most special of all, the filling is wrapped in a thin layer of silky mung bean paste — Lam Yên’s own twist, inspired by how the Japanese wrap strawberries in sweet red bean paste.

Together, these layers create a complete harmony: the nuttiness of mung bean, the gentle chew and fragrance of young rice, and the soft mochi shell — familiar yet new at the same time.

A dessert where two cultures meet

If strawberry mochi represents Japanese culture, then Mochi with Green Rice carries a Vietnamese soul — familiar, elegant, and quietly modern.

To younger customers, it’s fun, creative, and easy to enjoy. To older generations, it’s a beloved young-rice flavor retold through a new and charming form.

So young rice can be part of the New Year

Released just in time for Lunar New Year 2025, Lam Yên hopes this Mochi with Green Rice will become a thoughtful treat on the holiday tea table — adding a touch of freshness to spring gatherings. Besides the usual candies and roasted seeds, now there’s a soft, modern, yet nostalgic dessert for everyone to enjoy.

For Lam Yên, Mochi with Green Rice is not just another new cake — it’s a small but hopeful step in our journey to “renew young rice.” So that this grain, loved for generations, lives not only in memory, but continues to be cherished in a way that feels modern, delicate, and full of feeling.
